Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to Rakuten Mobile

What do I need to prepare to register/complete the procedure?

1. Identification documents (for foreigners, a Gai card is sufficient)

2. MNP reservation number - MNP予約番号
   Typically, the My Page of any mobile network provider allows you to proactively request an MNP code.
   However, you don't need to apply for this MNP beforehand if you choose the MNP One-Stop option when registering for Rakuten Mobile.

3. Rakuten account - If you don't have one yet, sign up :)

4. Credit card or bank account

*If the service user and the person signing the contract with Rakuten Mobile are different, a power of attorney is required.

Mobile number porting procedure

When switching from another network provider without changing your phone number (MNP), you can use the following two methods.

• MNP One-Stop Shop - One-Stop Procedure

• MNP Reservation Number - Use the manual MNP code.
  You need to obtain this MNP code from your current mobile carrier first, and then provide it to Rakuten Mobile during registration.

MNP One-Stop Shop - One-Stop Procedure

When performing a Mobile Number Portability (MNP) procedure from supported carriers, you do not need to manually obtain an MNP code from your old carrier. If you have already obtained your MNP code, please proceed with the procedure by selecting "Manual MNP code usage procedure".

*When registering for a network connection at the store, please request an MNP reservation number before coming to the store, even if you are switching from another company that is eligible for the One-Stop Shop service.

Mandatory attention

• The name on your current contract must match the name you used when registering for Rakuten Mobile.

• If your name is different, please update your personal information according to your current mobile phone company before registering for Rakuten Mobile.

Steps to follow

Start from this link and follow the steps as instructed in this article until you select MNP (Mobile Number Portability).

Register for Mobile Number Portability (MNP)

• Access the " Registration History (申し込み履歴) " page in the My Rakuten Mobile app.

• Select "Register for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) (電話番号の引継ぎ（MNP）申請をする)" as shown below.

Next, select your mobile carrier and you will be redirected to their MyPage website. Then, follow the on-screen instructions.

MNP activation complete.

After completing the one-stop MNP registration process, the "Start MNP Transfer (MNP転入を開始する)" button will appear in the "Registration History" section.
Please read the instructions carefully and proceed with the MNP (Mobile Number Portability) transfer procedure.

Completion times vary depending on when MNP is activated.

• If you activate it between 9:00 and 21:00
  -> The MNP process will be completed and you will be connected to Rakuten Mobile on the same day.

• Outside of the time frame mentioned above
  -> The MNP process will be complete and you will be connected to Rakuten Mobile after 9:00 AM the following day.

MNP Reservation Number - Use manual MNP code

This is a method where the network you're transferring from will issue you an MNP reservation number, which you then take to your new network. When transferring your number to a new network (MNP), the procedure must be completed at both the network you're transferring from and the network you're transferring to.

Notes:

• Your current contract name must match the name on your Rakuten Mobile subscription contract. If the name is different, please change it with your current carrier first and then apply for an MNP reservation number.

• When registering, you will also need to enter the expiration date of the issued MNP code. Remember to note this information when obtaining your MNP reservation number.

• If you apply for Rakuten Mobile online, you will need a valid MNP reservation number with at least 7 days remaining . If you apply in-store (Rakuten Mobile Shop), you can complete the process as long as your MNP is still valid.

Select: MNP予約番号を発行済みまたは上記以外の通信会社(MNP reservation number has been issued or other network)

MNP activation complete.
